BERLIN, April 22 (UPI) -- Pulling out of Afghanistan too soon could lead to a terrorist attack more devastating than 9/11, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday.
"The international community has pledged to work together in Afghanistan, that can only be ended by mutual agreement," she said in a speech before Germany's lower house of Parliament. "To do otherwise -- I am convinced -- would have consequences far more devastating than the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001."
About 3,000 people died Sept. 11, 2001, when four U.S. jetliners were hijacked. Two were crashed into the twin towers at New York's World Trade Center and another was smashed into the Pentagon outside Washington. After surveilling USS Liberty for more than nine hours with almost hourly aircraft overflights and radar tracking, the air and naval forces of Israel attacked our ship in international waters without warning. USS Liberty was identified as a US naval ship by Israeli reconnaissance aircraft nine hours before the attack and continuously tracked by Israeli radar and aircraft thereafter. Sailing in international waters at less than five knots, with no offensive armament, our ship was not a military threat to anyone.
The Israeli forces attacked without warning and without attempting to contact us. Thirty four Americans were killed in the attack and another 174 were wounded. The ship, a $40-million dollar state-of-the-art signals intelligence platform, was later declared unsalvageable and sold for scrap.
The Cover UpDespite a near-universal consensus that the Israeli attack was made with full knowledge that USS Liberty was a US Navy ship, the Johnson administration began an immediate cover-up of this fact. Though administration officers continued individually to characterize the attack as deliberate, the Johnson administration never sought the prosecution of the guilty parties or otherwise attempted to seek justice for the victims. They concealed and altered evidence in their effort to downplay the attack. Rabin killer's brother released from Israel prison
JERUSALEM (AP) — The unrepentant brother of the man who killed Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was released from prison Friday after serving 16½ years for complicity in a murder that stunned Israel and according to some destroyed an opportunity for peace.
Hagai Amir, 43, is not known to have expressed remorse for his role in the death and upon his release he told Israel Radio, "I am proud of what I did."
Amir helped plan the 1995 killing. His brother Yigal Amir, an ultra-nationalist Jewish extremist, is serving a life sentence for gunning down the prime minister after a Tel Aviv peace rally.

Fugitive Alexander Fights Extradition
Jacob "Kobi" Alexander, the former Comverse Technology Inc. chief executive who is wanted by the U.S., tried to bribe a colleague to take the blame for the crimes he is accused of, a U.S. Embassy attache told an African magistrate Monday.
The magistrate later denied Alexander bail, calling him a flight risk.
Alexander, 54, was arrested Wednesday in Windhoek, Namibia. The U.S. wants him extradited to face a 32-count indictment relating to backdating of Comverse stock options. The charges against him include conspiracy, securities fraud and making false filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Marilyn Williams, assistant legal attache at the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, the capital of Namibia's neighbor South Africa, told the court that Alexander had offered an unidentified executive $2 million, then $5 million, to take the blame, and said he would pay even more.
"He told the individual he can name his own price," she said.
Williams didn't identify the person Alexander allegedly tried to bribe. The person has agreed to cooperate in the case, she said.

At least two Israel-based employees of Odigo received warnings of an imminent attack in New York City more than two hours before the first plane hit the WTC. New York - Describing a brazen scheme to manipulate the granting of options, federal prosecutors have charged three former executives of Comverse Technology with mail fraud, securities fraud and wire fraud.
In charging the former executives on Tuesday, prosecutors said they had used fictitious employees to create a secret slush fund of options to be distributed to favored employees.
The former chief executive, Jacob Alexander, who had built Comverse into a $1 billion leader in the communications software market, did not appear in court and is believed to have fled to Germany or Israel, according to a person briefed on the investigation. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Alexander is highly regarded in Israel, where he once owned a stake in a Tel Aviv professional basketball team and where Comverse has extensive business operations.
In late July, he wired $57 million to an account in Israel, according to court filings from the Justice Department. Millions more are believed to remain in his accounts in the United States, which prosecutors have asked to be frozen.

A warrent by the U.S. Justice Dept. and an Interpol Red Notice has been issued for Israeli Mossad agent Jacob Kobi Alexander. Alexander linked to the noted Urban Moving Systems/Odigo Mossad Group which operated in the New Jersey, New York area pre-9/11.

An SEC case issued against Alexander (Docket 19796 Aug.9/06) has accused Alexander of backdating Put Options on United Airlines and American Airlines. Alexander has also been accused of using his company Odigo, an Israeli espionage operation, for the purpose of making these illegal trades.
The SEC has now fingered Alexander in wiring 57 million dollars to Israel, two weeks after 9-11.
Within two weeks after the 9-11 Attack on America, Odigo was taken over by Converse Technology, and it was during this takeover period that the backdating of the Put Options took place.

Fugitive Alexander Fights Extradition
Jacob "Kobi" Alexander, the former Comverse Technology Inc. chief executive who is wanted by the U.S., tried to bribe a colleague to take the blame for the crimes he is accused of, a U.S. Embassy attache told an African magistrate Monday.
The magistrate later denied Alexander bail, calling him a flight risk.
Alexander, 54, was arrested Wednesday in Windhoek, Namibia. The U.S. wants him extradited to face a 32-count indictment relating to backdating of Comverse stock options. The charges against him include conspiracy, securities fraud and making false filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Marilyn Williams, assistant legal attache at the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, the capital of Namibia's neighbor South Africa, told the court that Alexander had offered an unidentified executive $2 million, then $5 million, to take the blame, and said he would pay even more.
"He told the individual he can name his own price," she said.
Williams didn't identify the person Alexander allegedly tried to bribe. The person has agreed to cooperate in the case, she said.

At first Alexander, 54, has fled the country, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. In a related action, the government seized $45 million from two investment accounts held in the United States in Alexander's name. Authorities allege that Alexander, who made a total of more than $130 million through stock options at Comverse, transferred $57 million to accounts in Israel to conceal the funds.
At least two Israel-based employees of Odigo received warnings of an imminent attack in New York City more than two hours before the first plane hit the WTC. Odigo had its U.S. headquarters two blocks from the WTC. The Odigo employees, however, did not pass the warning on to the authorities in New York City, a move that could have saved thousands of lives.
Odigo has a feature called People Finder that allows users to seek out and contact others based on certain demographics, such as Israeli nationality.
Two weeks after 9/11, Alex Diamandis, Odigo's vice president, reportedly said, "It was possible that the attack warning was broadcast to other Odigo members, but the company has not received reports of other recipients of the message.”
The Internet address of the sender was given to the FBI, and two months later it was reported that the FBI was still investigating the matter. There have been no media reports since.
Odigo, like many Israeli software companies, is based and has its Research and Development (R&D) center in Herzliya, Israel, the small town north of Tel Aviv, which happens to be where Mossad's headquarters are located.

Jacob "Kobi" Alexander, a fugitive software executive, has sold three sprawling apartments near the top of a high-rise tower on Broadway as part of his recent settlement of charges brought by the U.S. regulators.
But the Alexander deal wasn't an arm's-length transaction. Rather, the buyer was a limited liability company represented by Mr. Alexander's lawyer. Court records show that Mr. Alexander had promised to transfer the apartments to his wife, Hana.
The sale took place a few weeks ago, according to property records, shortly before Mr. Alexander turned over more than $53 million to settle civil charges brought by the Security and Exchange Commission that he backdated millions of stock options at Comverse, a software company based on Long Island that develops and markets telecommunications software.
Criminal charges brought by the U.S. attorney's office in Brooklyn in 2006 against Mr. Alexander are still pending. He fled the U.S. that year and currently is living in Namibia.
Mr. Alexander's lawyer at the closing, Bruce I. Judelson, declined to discuss details of the transaction. But he issued a statement saying: "Mr. Alexander's sale of the apartments was authorized and effectuated pursuant to agreements with the government and Comverse resolving the civil cases."
One of the apartments on the 64th floor is 8,000 square feet, covering a full floor of the mixed office and residential tower. It recently rented for $100,000 a month, brokers said. The two three-bedroom apartments upstairs would add another 4,400 square feet if combined with the larger unit.
After bringing charges against Mr. Alexander, the government moved to seize two of his investment accounts holding tens of millions of dollars. Ms. Alexander challenged the seizure of the investment accounts.
As part of the recent settlement, Ms. Alexander relinquished her claim on the investment accounts in exchange for the right to the apartments or the proceeds from their sale, according to court records.
Property records show that on the same day that Mr. Alexander sold his three apartments in the Park Imperial, he also sold two other apartments he owned down the street on the 34th floor of the Central Park Place, a condominium on West 57th Street for $5.4 million to the same LLC. The day's transaction totaled $40.6 million. The prices were determined through an appraisal process.
Mr. Alexander put the two smaller apartments at the Park Imperial on the market in August for $15 million with Harry DiOrio of Prudential Douglas Elliman. They are still available for resale to another buyer, according to listing records.

LOS ANGELES - (AP) -- A suspected Israeli crime lord pleaded guilty Monday to being part of a racketeering enterprise that distributed Ecstasy and whose members killed a man for stealing a large drug shipment, a defense attorney said.
Itzhak Abergil, 43, entered his plea in a Los Angeles federal courtroom, defense attorney Mark Werksman said. As part of a plea agreement, Werksman said Abergil will serve a 10-year sentence. Sentencing is set for May 21.
"The Israeli and US governments have their boots on his neck with these cases and if he didn't enter into an agreement like this he faced the risk of being obliterated and getting a life sentence," said Werksman, who added the label that his client is a crime boss is an exaggeration.......
Prosecutors believe Itzhak Abergil was one of the largest importers of narcotics into the United States. They said his family worked with another drug syndicate, the Jerusalem Network, as well as a Los Angeles gang to traffic Ecstasy.............

AN FRANCISCO – American- Israeli hi-tech executive Samuel “Mouli” Cohen received one of the harshest sentences ever meted out in a white-collar crime case on Monday, for having defrauded victims of approximately $31 million.
Found guilty on 29 of 35 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and tax evasion in November 2011, Cohen was sentenced in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California to 22 years in prison.
